A confidential space, a place of safety and support

Welcome. If you're thinking of coming to counselling, please keep reading to see how I can help.

What Counselling Is

Counselling is a talking therapy that, regardless of age, can help us to explore and find out what is going on inside ourselves. It can help us to get in touch with our inner selves and to expand our awareness of how we respond and relate to the world and to those around us. The process of counselling can support us to gradually feel safe and connected with ourselves and with others; to find alternatives and resources from within, to strengthen our resilience and to shift our outlook of life.

About My Approach

I do not offer advice, solutions or coaching. My therapeutic approach is client-led, that is, I regard my clients (young and old), as the expert of themselves and I work towards providing a warm, accepting environment where my clients feel safe to tell their story. Building a relationship based on trust, empathy, acceptance and non-judgement, which are values at the heart of the person-centred approach, facilitates self-exploration. My practice is also informed by child development theory, neuroscience, art and play therapy. This allows me to tailor my approach to meet the uniqueness of each and every one of my clients.

About Me

Qualifications and experience

I am a child and adult counsellor/therapist, and a clinical assessor registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Children at School by the University of East London; and a BA (Hons) in adult person-centred counselling from Metanoia Institute. I also hold postgraduate studies in Mental Health and Adolescence Development from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation. All my counselling work is supervised by a BACP registered clinical supervisor.

I work as a student counsellor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, as a grief counsellor at an NHS IAPT Bereavement Service, and as a trauma informed therapist with survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

As a child counsellor, I have worked clinically in primary and secondary schools with children from the ages of 5 to 17. Working in schools, alongside school staff and other mental health professionals, I have gained deep insight into the challenges schools face to respond to the children's mental health needs.

My background

I am originally from Mexico City, living in the UK for 25 years. I first trained as a Civil Engineer and hold an MSc degree from UCL in Construction Economics. For a number of years I worked as a programme manager in the Telecoms industry. I have been in therapy myself for many years, this positive and life-changing experience inspired me when I decided to change my career.

What I Offer

I offer time-limited and open-ended therapy that usually takes place once a week at an agreed time and day.

When you first get in touch, we can have a 15-minute free phone consultation where we briefly discuss your reasons to approach counselling and availability. We then arrange a 50-minute assessment session. If you decide to proceed, we then set up weekly sessions at an agreed time and day. For young children, the assessment session is with the parents or carers.

Fees

I charge £80 for a 50-minute initial consultation and subsequent sessions.

Concessions are available, so please enquire.

Location

I practice from Islington, N1 in North London

I also work remotely, via an online platform or telephone.
